Grand Family Food Fight!

During the month of January, we are asking members to donate food to replenish our pantry to help struggling people in the River Valley who deal with food insecurity.

Here's how this competition works: if your last name begins with A-G, you are part of the "Breakfast Club," so you bring breakfast food items. If your last name begins with H-P, you are in the "Lunch Bunch," so bring lunch food items. And last names Q-Z are in the "Dinner Party."

Sample breakfast foods:

  • Granola bars or pop tarts
  • Oatmeal packets or rolled oats
  • Dry cereal
  • Muffin, biscuit or pancake mixes
  • Powdered drinks like coffee, milk or orange juice
  • Other non-perishable breakfast foods

Sample lunch foods:

  • Peanut butter and jelly
  • Ramen noodles
  • Soups, stews, chili
  • Canned fruits, applesauce, etc.
  • Crackers and cookies
  • Other non-perishable lunch items

Sample dinner foods:

  • Canned vegetables
  • Dry beans and rice
  • Canned meats (chicken, tuna, etc.)
  • Pastas and sauces
  • Instant potatoes or stuffing
  • Other non-perishable dinner items

Bring your food items to Guest Services on Sundays, or to the church offices (Mon-Thursday, 8:30-5). 

BEST OF ALL - you can donate money!  Every dollar you give counts as a food item, and we'll do the shopping for you! If you give online, look for the "Food Fight" giving option.  If you write a check, write "Food Fight" on the memo line. 

How do we know who's winning?

Every week, we will sort and count food items, based on whether they fall in the breakfast, lunch or dinner category, and we'll tally up money given (based on your last name).  In Guest Services, look for the delivery trucks - you'll be able to tell which team is ahead! Winning team gets a fabulous prize!  Competition runs through January and the winner will be announced on Super Bowl Sunday!


We are a Christian, non-profit organization bound to the service of helping our fellow persons with their needs.  We provide help in several areas, but mainly with:

  • Food
  • Clothing
  • Counseling

As a non-profit group we survive by contributions, donations and special pricing of needed items that are used to provide the basic help to those in need.

Our workers volunteer their time and labor so that we can provide these much needed items to the needy free of charge.

This group was formed in June '77 by one man and his wife, Bill and Wilma Yocum, who had a vision to help those needing a helping hand.  They were supported by Grand Avenue Baptist Church.

It has since grown from helping just a few people each month to helping over 100 plus families each month, and the workers from just 2 people to over 70 people who are involved in some way.
